About the Calculation
Alcohol content is calculated from the difference between original and final gravity. The formula accounts for the fact that not all sugar converts to alcohol.
Formula:
ABV = (OG - FG) × 131.25
Typical values:
- Session beer: 3-4% ABV
- Standard beer: 4-6% ABV
- Strong beer: 6-9% ABV
- Imperial: 9-12%+ ABV
